Student Engagment Report

Using the Student Engagement System

The student engagement system was designed to help students maintain a record of involvement in service and leadership activities.  This system allows you to record your involvement in several campus-sponsored activities as well as submitting your own custom activities.

Getting to the Student Engagement System

The Student Engagement System is found in the Alma College Portal located at http://my.alma.edu/. When you first come to the portal, click on Login using AlmaID.  Sign in with your username and password.  After you sign in, you will see a Services tab.  Click on the Services tab.  There you will find the Student Engagement Report channel.  It is recommended that you click on the focus icon ( ) in the top right-hand corner of this channel for easiest use.  When focused on a channel, you may always return to the normal view by clicking on the return icon ( ).

Alma Portal > Services Tab > Student Engagement Report (focus)

Initial View – View Activities

Here you will see a list of campus-sponsored activities coming soon as well as campus-sponsored activities that have passed or are always open.  Activities will typically become unavailable at the end of the term in which the activity occurs.  When you click on an activity, you will see the details of that activity.  At the bottom of the activity details, there will be a Record Involvement button.  Clicking this button will bring up a form which will allow you to record your involvement in that activity.  Depending on the activity, you may be required to enter a journal entry among other information.  Enter as much information as possible.  Then, click on Save or Submit (see below).

Save vs. Submit

The Save button is generally used for saving the work you have done in order to come back to it later and modify it.  This is useful especially for an activity that spans over a period greater than one day (i.e. Habitat for Humanity).  This would allow you to go back and update the hours you spend on that activity after each time that you participate in that activity.  The Submit button is used when you are done entering all information for that activity and will not need to modify it.  Upon saving an activity, you will be taken to the Saved Activities View.  When you click Submit, you can no longer modify what you entered, and the sponsoring office will be able to review it if necessary.  Upon submitting an activity, you will be taken to View Your Engagement Record.

Viewing and Printing Your Report – View Your Engagement Report

When you click on the View Your Engagement Report link, you will see a record of all of the activities you have entered into the engagement system listed by sponsoring office and term.  You can print this report simply by going to File > Print on your browser, but be sure that you are in the separate view of the Student Engagement Channel for best printing (by clicking on the  icon).

Record a Custom Activity

This view allows you to enter a custom or non-campus-sponsored activity.  It should only be used to record activities related to service or leadership.  Fill out the form with as much information as possible.  Then, click the Save or Submit button (see Save vs. Submit on the front page).

Saved Activities

This view shows you the activities that you have saved but not yet submitted (see Save vs. Submit on the front page).   When you click on the activity, you will be taken to the form to modify what you have entered so far.  Then, click Save or Submit.

Help

This view provides you with more information about using the system.  If you need more assistance with the system, you may contact Larry Elliott at x7303 or by email at elliott@alma.edu.

Alma’s off-campus study programs do more than place students in exciting locales to meet interesting people; they also create new opportunities for personal growth and skill development. One of the best ways to learn about other societies and cultures is to study and travel in international settings. You do not always have to know a foreign language.
