Fall Break Opportunities, October 2007

Heartside Ministry, Grand Rapids 
You will have the opportunity to work with several different programs with the agency and learn about the issues and concerns of this Grand Rapids neighborhood.
Leave Thursday Oct. 18 at 7:30am;  Return Friday Oct. 19 at 4:30pm
 
Open Door, Fort Street Presbyterian Church, Detroit 
Volunteer at this weekly outreach for the homeless in Detroit.. Services included are a soup kitchen and clothes closet.
Leave Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 17:  Return Thursday afternoon, Oct. 18
 

Spring Break Opportunities

February 23 - March 1, 2008

Applications will be available November 1. Return application and $25 deposit by November 16 for maximum consideration of your first choice. If interest exceeds available space, a selection process will take place. The application process will continue until all available spots are filled.

Participants will assist Habitat chapters in new home construction.
 
Environmental Awareness
Nature Conservancy, Disney Wildlife Preserve
Kissimmee, Florida
 
Faith-Based / Disaster Recovery
Assisting the churches on the Gulf Coast with recovery from Hurricane Katrina
 
Faith-Based / Developmentally Challenged Individuals
Duvall Presbyerian Home; Glenwood, Florida
Activities with developmentally challenged youth and adults. Assistance to the facility's office and grounds.
 
(Faith Based Service Trips iinclude scripturally based reflections and opportunities for prayer and worship)
 
Health Care and Counseling
Heartland Hospice; Gratiot County and Atlanta, GA
Participants will be trained by Heartland Hospice to be hospice volunteers. They will have the opportunity to serve locally in Gratiot County and outside of the community during spring break.
 
HIV / AIDS
Volunteer with these agencies addressing the needs of individuals affected by HIV/AIDS
 
Physically Disabled Individuals
United Cerebral Palsy of Middle Tennessee; Nashville, TN
Learn the art of wheelchair ramp construction. Build a ramp each day at individual's homes.
 
Refugee Awareness
Experience a refugee simulation. Work with refugee children in an after school program. Assist the foundation with their facilities for refugee families.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

Many of Alma’s pre-law graduates go on to attend prestigious law schools, including 2004 graduate Jessica Karbowski, who was accepted at Yale, Stanford and Harvard law schools and is attending Yale. Colin McGlaughlin, a 20004 graduated enrolled at Case Western Reserve Law School, is the first American to intern at the International Criminal Court at The Hague in the Netherlands.
