Faith-Based / Hurricane Relief

Gulfport, Mississippi
Assist the Presbytery with relief work and participating in worship experiences in the Gulf Coast area.
 
Hurricane Relief Efforts
Chalmette, LA
Clean-up efforts in the Gulf Coast states as a result of hurricane Katrina.
 
Urban Mission Experience
Jacksonville, Florida
Volunteer at a variety of urban social agencies including a soup kitchen, clothing distribution center, Habitat, food bank, etc.
 
Youth and Poverty
P.E.A.C.E. Community Center
Chicago, Illinois
Assist in an after school program with inner-city children and youth. One morning will be spent in service at the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
 
 

 

More than 100 Alma College students and staff traveled to destinations in New Mexico, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Louisiana and North Carolina for service projects during winter break in February 2007. “Alternative Break service experiences continue to gain popularity on Alma College’s campus,” says Sallie Scheide, assistant director in the Center for Responsible Leadership.

When students are involved in research, faculty aggressively pursue publication of findings including students as co-authors.
