The Challenge of Studying Abroad.

A study abroad experience changes you. You come back to the United States a different person challenged by what you have experienced and learned, both in and out of class.

Your learn about language, culture and customs of your host country and how the U.S. is viewed abroad.

Returning students say they are confident in their abilities and knowledge of the world, America, and themselves. Their values and goals are clarified, their leadership skills and confidence delveloped to help them make changes in their communities.

Outstanding Academics

Your transformation is made possible in part by outstanding academic programs. Quality academics form the core of all Alma programs abroad. Language and cultural immersion programs are designed to make you fluent in a second language and to develop relationships with and understanding of your hosts.

Classes are available at most sites in art, literature, history, political science and business. Our partner universities in English speaking countries were chosen on the basis of their academic quality.

Studying abroad is more than classroom activities, however. The quality academics of the Alma programs create the "hardware." But good hardware is incomplete without good software. The exciting and interesting excursions, trained and supportive staff and lists of services and amenities compose the "software" of Alma's international programs.

Study in More than One City

A select few of our study programs allow you to study in more than one city. In South America your program can take you to Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. In the summer in France, a month of language study in Nice complements content courses in Paris.

Since 2003, twenty Alma College students have won prestigious national fellowships, scholarships and awards, including 10 Fulbright fellowships and multiple Udall, Truman, Marshall and Gates-Cambridge scholarships.

Alma’s off-campus study programs do more than place students in exciting locales to meet interesting people; they also create new opportunities for personal growth and skill development. One of the best ways to learn about other societies and cultures is to study and travel in international settings. You do not always have to know a foreign language.
