I think I’m interested in the Presidential Honors Program. Why should I join?

The Honors Program is everything you can do at Alma College and then some. Honors students are pushed academically as they work with faculty members in a creative, collaborative environment. All the while, they earn Phi Beta Kappa distinction—and bragging rights.

Am I eligible to join?

All students are eligible to join the Alma College Presidential Honors Program.

What are the requirements to join?

We believe that the work you do at Alma is the best measure for participation in the program. You need to maintain a 3.5 GPA to be eligible for the Honors Program.

How do I fulfill the program’s requirements once I’ve joined?

In addition to maintaining a 3.5 GPA and completing honors courses, you must do a service-learning program, an Honors Day presentation and a four-credit research project or independent study, among other requirements. For full details, please see the requirement list.

 

Alma College is among the top 40 baccalaureate institutions in the country for the percentage of students who choose to study abroad, according to a report published by the Institute for International Education. Among Alma’s graduates in the 2009–10 academic year, 61.4 percent participated in study abroad, which ranked 37th in the nation.

What does Janelle Young have in common with Aristotle and Descartes? The Charlotte sophomore enjoys pondering life’s big questions just as much as the world’s greatest philosophers did.

“I came to Alma College wanting to be a music educator, but I found myself leaving my religion class excited,” she says. “I really loved contemplating questions related to religion and the existence of God, and I realized that’s where my passion was.”
