Buddy Scarborough

Student Profile: Buddy Scarborough

Buddy Scarborough hopes to change the world with his sociology major. In fact, he has already started.

Scarborough traveled to the small town of Denu, Ghana, in the summer of 2007 and spent two months teaching English, mathematics and environmental studies to primary students. He also traveled to surrounding villages setting up volunteer program in the schools.

I am very passionate about global social change through volunteer service, and sociology really helps me understand the issues and how to address them.

“I am very passionate about global social change through volunteer service, and sociology really helps me understand the issues and how to address them,” the Romeo junior says. “It's really helped me expand my mind into so many different realms of humanity and how we live our lives.”

After graduating, Scarborough hopes to join the Peace Corps for two years, and then continue to graduate school. He eventually hopes to work for the Peace Corps or another global non-governmental organization.

“Sociology will come into play with my understanding of the social issues facing a marginalized group of people and how a group of volunteers can help the situation,” he says.

Originally attracted to Alma by the football program, Scarborough also participates in the Center for Responsible Leadership and is a P-Global fellow and resident assistant.
