Dryden sophomore Zachary Jacques says he is up for a challenge—and he has the major to prove it.
“Healthcare administration is a different approach to the medical field,” he says. “One of the biggest challenges today in medicine is created through conflict between clinicians and administrators, so double majoring will be very beneficial to me.”
Through the ASPIRE program, Jacques got a jump start on scientific research before he even began his freshman year. He says if you want to study something at Alma, the professors will do everything in their power to make that happen.
“Alma’s faculty members are extremely empowering to you as a student,” he says. “They enable you to be successful. They aren’t just focused on helping you learn the material in their classes. They also want to help you achieve your long-term goals.”
On campus, Jacques is involved in the honors program, the Alma Innovative Alliance, United Health Professionals of Alma College and club hockey. He says he hopes to attend medical school and become a family practitioner in a rural area.
“I like the idea of doing medicine as a public service,” he says. “I think my Alma education will benefit me in the future. Everything here is a benefit, really. We may be small, but the science faculty members are amazing at what they do.”
