Why choose teacher education preparation at Alma College? What
sets this liberal arts school apart from other universities that offer
teacher training programs? We believe that your experience at
college is a powerful and important time of life. It is during
this time that students have the opportunity to develop “who they are”,
not only as a teacher, but more importantly as a person of integrity
with unique qualities that can be used to positively impact the youth
of our world. Our desire is to be part of that process.
The Alma College Education Department is a team of professionals who
work together to assure that each student receives a comprehensive and
quality education. Every one of our faculty team members has taught in
the public schools, with extensive experiences at PreK-12th grade
levels. Having worked in the environments into which our students are
headed gives us a unique credibility and perspective from which to
teach. Every course is taught by trained professors who care for their
students and are available with an “open door policy” to help set
goals, meet needs, and solve problems that arise. We care for our
students, invest time and interest into their lives, and endeavor to be
positive role models as educators and as people.
We believe that students need to have direct experiences with teaching
in order to make a decision about their college major before too much
time has gone by. For this reason, we place our students into
“field experiences” early and often so that they can interact with
children of different ages and at different levels to determine whether
teaching is the right vocation choice for them.
Alma College values our reputation of graduating some of the finest and
well-prepared teachers in the state of Michigan. Because of this
