Graduate Profile: Krista Ried
Krista Schroeder Ried realizes now more than ever the quality of her Alma College education.
As an education consultant and teacher quality coordinator for the Michigan Department of Education, she has had the opportunity to evaluate educational programs from all over the country.
“As I look at teacher preparatory programs, I know that I was prepared by Alma to be an exceptional teacher,” the 1994 graduate says. “The small class sizes, individual attention, support and mentoring were key. Research in quality teacher preparation supports this as well.”
Ried minored in psychology and speech and theatre and taught in a classroom for about 10 years before moving to an administrative position with the state. She hopes to begin her Ph.D. program in the next few years.
“I have always wanted to be a teacher and help students,” she says. “I know someday I will be back in the classroom, but for now, I know I am needed where I am and am making a difference in the lives of children every day.”
While at Alma, Ried was on in the dance team and a member of the mentor program and Psi Chi (psychology) Honor Society.
