Graduate Profile: Jeff Bateson
Jeff Bateson takes his work in education seriously.
Growing up in a family of educators, he was attracted to Alma for its academic reputation and small size.
“Alma’s a great place to get an education — in the classroom and in life,” the 1998 graduate says.

Now the head soccer coach at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., Bateson says he loves teaching his players not just about the game, but about life in general.
A math minor and Spanish minor, Bateson played semi-professional soccer and coached at a number of institutions, including Alma, before his time at Guilford.
“All the people at Alma are great, and I felt very safe and welcome everywhere I went on campus and in town,” he says. “The local school districts did a wonderful job of helping the Alma students begin their teaching careers.”
