Graduate Profile: Ryan McNally
Ryan McNally plans to use his economics degree to help him run his own veterinary practice.
The third-year veterinary student at Michigan State University and a 2004 Alma graduate says he has always enjoyed economics. After taking a few classes at Alma, he realized it would be a beneficial major.
“First and foremost, the education I received at Alma College helped me reach my immediate goal upon graduation of getting accepted into vet school,” he says. “A degree in economics goes beyond that though; economics opens up a whole new perspective for thought, rationalization, and decision making, and overall allows for a better understanding of the world around me.”

2004 graduate Ryan McNally and his wife, 2004 Alma graduate Jennifer McNally (Sanders).
That understanding of the world will help McNally make his veterinary business a success.
“I can only assume that an education grounded in economics will better equip me to face the challenges that face all business owners, namely growth in a competitive marketplace,” he says.
McNally was attracted to Alma by the intimate size.
“I liked the idea of going to a college where I would be more than just a number, where I could take classes with professors who would and could learn the students’ names,” he says.
While at Alma, McNally was involved in the Sigma Chi fraternity and Homecoming Committee, and worked at the main switchboard. He also was a teaching assistant and tutor for Associate Professor James Mueller in the economics department.
