Graduate Profile: April LaCroix
April LaCroix was using her Alma College education long before she graduated.
“At some schools, you can learn how to change the world. Or, you can go to Alma and start doing it while you're here,” the 2005 graduate says.
“At Alma I was able to immediately apply what I learned in the classroom to my volunteer work, research and personal life.”
A major in economics with a program of emphasis in environmental policy and sustainability, LaCroix realized she needed to understand economics in order to truly understand solutions to environmental problems.
“The global crisis we face today will not be solved in a vacuum,” she says. “The business sector, as an entity that easily rivals both governments and non-profits in scope and power, must be the leader.”
“By understanding both environmental issues and economics, I can help find opportunities in the world’s greatest challenges for business to be a force for good,” she says.

LaCroix now works in management consulting, focusing on helping companies to integrate sustainability into their core business strategy, and using her knowledge to help businesses operate in a manner that helps the environment.
“My goal is to apply my passion and knowledge to show companies the business case for doing well by doing good,” she says. “My current work involves executive education and corporate strategy for Fortune 500 companies.”
While at Alma, LaCroix started a residence hall recycling program, and was involved in planning Wright Hall, Alma College’s first environmentally sustainable residence hall.
Alma also gave her the opportunity to study and/or work in Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, India and South Africa. LaCroix was named a Morris K. Udall Scholar in 2004 and a Fulbright Scholar in 2005.
