Faculty Profile: Dr. Robert Cunningham
Bob Cunningham’s favorite part of Alma College is interacting with faculty from a variety of disciplines.
“The faculty here are dedicated to teaching and pushing students beyond what they think they can do,” the Economics assistant professor says.
Cunningham joined the Alma College faculty in 1999 and is originally from Pennsylvania. He chairs the economics department and is also the coordinator for the pre-law program.
He came to Alma for the liberal arts atmosphere and wanted to work with students from a variety of disciplines.
Economics explained to him how certain relationships are connected. He realized if he wanted to do anything in the field, he had to pursue his doctorate.
Still, he wasn’t even sure what to pursue with his Ph.D. until he began teaching an undergraduate class during his doctorate studies. That made Cunningham realize that he really enjoyed teaching.
Traveling is one of his favorite activities, and his travels to London for a 2003 spring term were a great experience. He also enjoys reading, movies and softball in his spare time.
Dr. Bob Cunningham interviewed in February 2007 by CBS affiliate WLNS-TV Channel 6 Lansing about the rise in Michigan home foreclosures.
