Faculty Profile: Dr. George Choksy

Associate Professor of economics George Choksy doesn’t think of teaching as a job but as a calling.
“I taught at five different colleges and universities for the first ten years of my career,” he says. “I kept moving around because I knew I could do better, find a better school. When Alma and I found each other, we knew it was a marriage made in heaven.”
Choksy earned his undergraduate degree from Roanoke College and his graduate degrees from The University of Tennessee Knoxville. He has been teaching at Alma for 18 years.
“My favorite part about teaching at Alma is that the College is committed to excellence in teaching and vitality in research and publication,” he says.
His research is in the areas of econometrics, economic history, regional economics and the history of economic thought.
In his spare time, he enjoys building scale models, collecting coins, watching college football and playing guitar.
