Student Profile: Tyler DeLap
From inputting data into a spreadsheet to dribbling a basketball down the court, Tyler DeLap’s Alma College experience is a slam dunk.
While applying to colleges, the Carson City senior looked for a school that would allow him to pursue his passion for accounting while continuing to play basketball. He says Alma gave him that opportunity.
“Being part of the basketball team at Alma means being part of a family and creating lifelong friendships,” he says. “What you get from the basketball team at Alma is an experience you can’t get anywhere else.”
Off the court, DeLap is excited to complete an internship at an accounting firm this summer. In the meantime, he hones his accounting skills as an intern in the College’s business office.
“I really like working hands on with accounting and all the technical stuff from accounts to balances,” he says. “It’s great practice for my future career because I’m focusing on all the things that accountants need to be aware of.”
DeLap also is a resident assistant and a member of the Recreation Center staff. He says trying to balance numbers while also balancing his time has been a great learning experience for him.
“Alma has really taught me to be more mature and wise with my time,” he says. “I’ve had to grow up from who I was in high school, which is great. Alma shows you what the real world is like before you get out there.”
