Student Profile: Meredith Rahrig
Now that she has a clearer picture of her future, Rockford sophomore Meredith Rahrig is on the path to success.
“Before coming to Alma, I was sure that I wanted to be a doctor, but hospital rotations helped me figure out that pre-med wasn’t for me,” she says. “While it was really interesting to see all the different parts of the hospital, I don’t see myself in a hospital setting anymore.”
But Rahrig didn’t have to worry about finding a major. She says she quickly found a home in the business administration department.
“My dad owns his own business, and deep down, I’ve always been interested in business,” she says. “At Alma, I’ve really enjoyed my business classes. I’m fascinated by how money works and how it changes hands.”
Rahrig, a mathematics minor, eventually hopes to pursue a joint law and master’s degree in business administration. Though these programs can be competitive, she says her involvement both on and off campus is bound to give her the edge.
In addition to being a dedicated member of organizations that include Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Phi Omega and the Barrister’s Society, she volunteers at Masonic Pathways and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
“I’ve already had a lot of opportunities here, both in my classes and in extracurricular activities,” she says. “No matter what department you’re in, all the professors and faculty want you to succeed, which I can already tell will be a huge advantage after graduation.”
