Graduate Profile: Dr. Brent Moeggenborg

Brent Moeggenborg grew up in Alma and didn’t realize that everything he wanted in a college was right here.

“The pre-med and pre-dental programs are excellent and have a stellar track record for acceptance into graduate programs,” the 2000 graduate says.

Now a dentist in Alma, he credits his pre-professional advising for helping him succeed in dental school.

“I was advised on which classes would benefit me and given names of Alma grads that were in dental school to talk with them about their experience in dental school,” he says.

The biology major was always interested in living organisms and appreciates that dentistry allows him to have such an interactive experience with patients.

“Patients often have questions regarding their general and oral health,” he says. “Having a background in many different areas has been extremely beneficial.”

That varied background came both from his ability as a biology major to study all different kinds of life forms and from Alma’s general liberal arts education.

“I feel that my undergraduate studies taught me how to be a conceptual thinker, to problem solve and understand concepts, verses solely memorizing the material,” he says.

While at Alma, he was a member of the Beta Beta Beta biological honors society and Zeta Sigma fraternity. In addition, he was involved with an independent research project in chemistry.

Alma College is one of the first undergraduate colleges in the United States to belong to the International Criminal Court Student Network (ICCSN). Created in 2006 by students at the London School of Economics, the ICCSN aims to promote the work of the ICC and increase knowledge of international criminal law. Alma joins Duke University School of Law, the University of Cambridge and other institutions in a global community that connects students who share an interest in the ICC.
