Jared Kilpatrick

Student Profile: Jared Kilpatrick

For a chemistry and biology double major who hopes to become a physician, a stand-out résumé is as vital as a good bedside manner. That’s why Rochester Hills senior Jared Kilpatrick chose Alma College.

“The service opportunities at Alma sparked my interests,” he says. “I went to Nepal this past summer through Posey Global and volunteered in a hospital. It was a really great experience that made me appreciate the modern technology and health standards that we have in America.”

Kilpatrick is a resident assistant and vice president of both the Biology and Chemistry clubs. He also is member of the soccer, cross-country and track teams. Athletics is another reason he chose Alma, he says.

“I really enjoy running, and being on the teams here is a lot of fun,” he says. “We’re extremely close. Cross-country and track can be tiring because of the time demand, but it’s worth it. I hope to be able to keep running after graduation.”

As an Alma student, Kilpatrick has traveled to Hawaii during Spring Term and participated in an Alternative Break. As he applies to medical schools, he also is working on an independent research project involving heterometallic compounds.

“These are experiences I can only get here,” he says. “At many other schools, I would have chosen a single thing to focus on, but at Alma, I can do a lot. I feel like this will help me relate to more people, whether they’re people I meet in graduate school or future patients that I have.”

Since 2003, Alma College students have been awarded 43 prestigious nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships, including 22 Fulbright scholarships. Alma’s Nationally Competitive Scholarship Committee identifies and nurtures exceptional candidates for postgraduate awards.
