Pre-Medicine

Pre-Medical Program at Alma College

Welcome to the front page for the Pre-Medical Program!

Pre-medical preparation is both challenging and exciting. I urge you to dive deeply into your studies and let yourself be a "geek" for science. You will find fellow students ready to do the same!

We have a strong history of success with graduates attending medical school. Our students report they feel well prepared for the rigor of medical school, both in terms of the information and skills they possess, as well as an attitude of cooperative and team learning.

There's a lot of information on the site, so cruise around using the links to the left.

The weblinks may not be live. If that is the case, please paste them into your browser! Have fun!

Alma College received a $150,000 grant from the National Science Foundation in August 2009 for research that could eventually lead to the development of more effective drugs to treat and prevent certain kinds of influenza, including human infections of swine and avian flu. "This project provides an opportunity for students to get involved in important laboratory research," says faculty member Jeff Turk, principal investigator.

Graduate Profile

Dr. Dave Sherwood
Graduation: 1985
Major: Biology and Art

Dave Sherwood was helping his brother pack when he came across an old paper from high school. Written when he was 17, it described what he thought his life would be like in 15 years.

He was shocked to find the paper actually described his current life.

Sherwood works as a doctor in the small mountain community of Ouray, Colo., where he lives with his wife and three children.
