The department is located in the lower level of the Swanson Academic Center. The 14000 sq. ft. facility includes faculty offices, laboratories designed for both animal and human studies, and informal meeting spaces. Specialized facilities include one-way mirror observations rooms, an environmental control chamber, a computer lab, rooms shielded from light, noise, or electromagnetic interference, neuroscience labs, and enough small rooms, so that every student engaged in indiviudal reseach can have their own laboratory or project office. We may be the only psychology department in the country that has its own electron microscope, available for undergraduate use.  

 

Alma College boasts a 13-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio, a liberal arts approach to undergraduate education, 28 academic majors, self-designed programs of emphasis, pre-professional programs in law and medicine, and an intensive Spring Term that provides opportunities for innovative courses, travel classes, research and internships.

Joel Kimball was attracted to psychology by the wide variety of opportunities within the field. In fact, a wide variety of opportunities was what attracted him to Alma College.

“The scientific rigor of psychology at Alma gives a very disciplined and data-driven approach, along with exceptional faculty,” the 1988 graduate says. “I was attracted to Alma by the opportunity to participate in many different activities while in school, as well as the quality of the liberal arts curriculum, faculty and size.”
