Major or Teaching Major Requirements

  1. Thirty-six credits, including PHY 121, 122, 220, 221, 312, 321, 323, 421; and either 333, 380, 499, 500 or Astronomy 225 or Electronics and Computer Engineering 261.
  2. Twenty cognate credits, including Mathematics 121, 122, 210, 211 and Computer Science 120.

Minor or Teaching Minor Requirements

Twenty-four credits, including Physics 121, 122, 220, 221 and eight credits from Physics, Astronomy and Electronics and Computer Engineering courses numbered 200 or above. Twenty cognate credits, including Mathematics 121, 122, 210, 211 and Computer Science 120.

Four credits from PHY, with the exception of practicum or independent study courses, count towards the Distributive Requirements in the Natural Sciences — Physical Sciences.

 

Alma students can explore the environmental wonders of the Galapagos Islands, practice Spanish language skills, study Ecuadorian culture, complete coursework in business finance, and fulfill a South American internship in entrepreneurship through Alma College's one-of-a-kind partnership with Equatorialis University in Quito, Ecuador.

Major: Physics

Amanda Gambino Kilpatrick may not use her physics major every day, but her Alma education gave her an opportunity to pursue a career as a software developer.

“I still am fascinated by physics, and I do use much of the critical thinking and problem-solving strategies that I gained in my studies at Alma,” the 1998 graduate says. “My Alma education helped me to have the discipline and drive to be able to work from home.”
