Dr. John Putz Publishes New Book

Maple Animation, a new book by Dr. John Putz, describes the methods he uses to create animations with the powerful computer algebra system, Maple®. The book presents a variety of the techniques that Dr. Putz has developed in creating the animated demonstrations he uses to illustrate mathematical ideas.

Michigan Autumn Take Home Challenge

Created by Professor Timothy Sipka, the Michigan Autumn Take Home Challenge is a team-oriented math competition for undergraduates. Teams of 2 or 3 students take a 3-hour exam consisting of 10 interesting problems dealing with topics and concepts found in the undergraduate mathematics curriculum. Each team takes the exam on their home campus under the supervision of a faculty advisor.

High School Math Challenge

The Alma College High School Math Challenge is a problem of the month program specifically designed for high school students. Each month a new problem is distributed to participating high schools. Created by Professors Robert Molina and Timothy Sipka, the Challenge is now in its second year. Alma is one of seven Michigan colleges and universities to hold membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the national leadership society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.
