Graduate Profile: Kim Scheerer
Kim Scheerer has always been interested in the outdoors, but she was attracted to the environmental studies minor at Alma because of the hands-on instruction.
“I believe my studies at Alma College have given me the background and framework necessary to understand both local and global ecosystems,” the 1999 graduate says, “and the ability to transfer those skills to the professional level.”

Her profession moved her from her hometown of Bay City to Albuquerque, N.M., where she coordinates a local environmental education program. One part of that program involves capturing and fitting local porcupines for radio collars. The radio collars allow students to track porcupine movements and population dynamics.
The biology major was attracted to Alma by the class sizes and reputation. Kim currently co-teaches an ecology class at the University of New Mexico. She hopes to earn her PhD and teach at the college level full-time.
While at Alma, she was involved in Students United for Nature and played intramural basketball.
