A little about us, that's if you wanted to know of course! If you see us around campus, give us a HIYO and hopefully you'll get one back!!

Hey!  My name is Ian, I'm a sophomore at Alma college attempting to double major in biochemistry and biology! I love to be in the lab, for class and for chem club. When I'm not studying, you can find me hanging out with the guys in Bruske 1st south, playing Halo 2, or working out at rec! My favorite type of chem is organic synthesis, and my favorite atom is oxygen.  You can contact Ian Harrier at 10imharr@alma.edu.

Hey gang!  My name is Jay, I am a sophomore here at Alma and a full time resident of KAP157 located in DOW.  I eat sleep and breathe chemistry, and I hope you do as well or you wouldn't be alive!!  I'm a chemistry major looking to go to grad school for a PhD in Inorganic or possibly Organic Chemistry.  As of now I have done research on Molybdenum Dithiolene complexes and starting a new topic on binding of heterocyclic molecules.  It includes an iron complex which hopefully will bind O2 just as our hemes do.  I also look to come back and teach chemistry  at Alma... Wish me luck!!  You can contact Jason Vanderhovel @10jdvand@alma.edu.

Hello! My name is Paul and I am a Biology major here at Alma College. Although I am not a Chemistry major, I enjoy spending a large portion of my time with the Chemistry department and the Chemistry Club; I am actually the lab manager responsible for inventory and other  miscellaneous tasks. My main research in Biology is with Bacillus thuringiensis toxins using the Emerald Ash Borer as a source of genetic material, and the thermal ecology of painted turtles (Chrysemys picta). I would like to attend graduate school for Ecology and Evolutionary Biology or Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.  You can contact Paul Converse  at 10peconv@alma.edu.

Hey, I'm Kelsey!  I'm a junior Biochemistry major and currently I'm planning on attending graduate school with an emphasis on toxicology and enzymology. Above, you can see me in what is known as my natural habitat, the lobby of Dow.  I can frequently be found either studying there or working in a lab somewhere.  In addition to my normal classes, I like to do independent research and have worked with professors in three departments at Alma and one at the University of Michigan through a Research Experience for Undergraduates program.  Outside of science, I'm involved as a class officer and a member of a sorority on campus.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its eighth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2008. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.
