Biotechnology

Students in the Biotechnology program at Alma College study contemporary “hot topics” using modern techniques and lab instrumentation. They also have the opportunity to gain real-world experience by interacting with professionals in the industry.

In addition to completing an intensive summer research experience, students participate in a journal club that documents their critical analysis of current research. This is one of the many unique features of the biotechnology program, which integrates coursework from the humanities and social sciences.

The program prepares students with hands-on skills for graduate studies in biomedical science as well as for work in research, health, pharmaceutical, environmental science and agricultural biotechnology settings. Alma has a history of successfully placing its graduates in biotechnology positions.

Alma College students have experiential learning opportunities in Washington, D.C. and around the world through the College’s partnership with the Osgood Center for International Studies. The Osgood Center offers annual leadership, business and foreign policy conferences for college students on contemporary international issues.

What do people do? Why do they do what they do? Though Brandi Stupica, assistant professor of psychology, doesn’t claim to hold all the answers, she has still dedicated her life to figuring people out.

“I went into college thinking pre-med and quickly switched to English, all while taking psychology classes and really liking them,” she says. “Even when I declared my psychology major, I thought it was just a back-up! I finally realized all my behaviors were indicating that psychology was the thing I was really interested in.”
