ALMA COLLEGE ATHLETIC TRAINING EDUCATION PROGRAM

Program Description

According to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training  Education (CAATE) the Athletic Trainer is an integral part of the health care system associated with physical activity and sports. Athletic Training is an allied health profession dedicated to the prevention, care, and rehabilitation after physical trauma. Athletic Trainers work in a number of settings including collegiate athletics, interscholastic athletics, professional sports, fitness centers, sports medicine clinics, and industrial settings.   The entry-level credential needed to practice Athletic Training is certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification. Some states also require Athletic Trainers to be licensed.

The Alma College Athletic Training Program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) for the five year period beginning September 2005. The Athletic Training students are able to take the national BOC certification exam.

The mission of our program is to prepare students for careers in Athletic Training as Certified Athletic Trainers in the context of an outstanding liberal arts education. The curriculum is designed to meet the standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (BOC). The students that complete the requirements for the Athletic Training major can earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Additional science electives can be taken to earn a Bachelor's of Science degree. The Athletic Training major is located in the Exercise and Health Science Department. For additional information contact Denny Griffin MA, ATC, Director of the ATEP at (989) 463-7988 or Griffin@alma.edu.
