Jamie Byron

Student Profile: Jamie Byron

The hands-on experience is Jaime Byron’s favorite thing about Alma College’s Exercise and Health Science major.

The focus on human anatomy and physiology involved in an EHS degree gives excellent preparatory skills for any profession in the health care industry.

“The EHS department is a great place for individual research projects, and the professors are not only willing but eager to assist students with their ideas,” the Perrinton senior says.

Byron has a minor in public health and hopes to attend graduate school for a career as a physician's assistant or in public health.

“The focus on human anatomy and physiology involved in an EHS degree gives excellent preparatory skills for any profession in the health care industry,” she says.

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in both 2008 and 2009 for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

Graduate Profile

Brandon Smith
Graduation: 2008
Major: Exercise and Health Science
Minor: Chemistry

Brandon Smith hopes his interest in the human body combined with his major in exercise and health science will earn him a spot in medical school in the fall of 2008.

“The Exercise and Health Science Department at Alma has classes that focus on function in physiology, structure in anatomy and even pathology in human diseases,” the Harrisville senior says. “I hope that I will discover an area of medicine that will call me in the way that the EHS program here did.”
