For Kait Squanda, who has played sports her entire life, exercising and staying healthy are daily activities. Inspiring others to do the same is her passion.

“The human body amazes me every single day,” she says. “It’s so complex, and to be able to know what’s going on in it and to talk about it with my friends is really cool. I like to be a nerd. After graduation, I want to teach, so I can help others understand how to be healthy.”

For the Reese junior and integrative physiology and health science major, attending Alma College also has proved to be a healthy decision, despite never even visiting before becoming a Scot. Squanda was dead-set on attending another school, she says.

“I felt like nothing was going to work out, so I just thought on a whim, Why not Alma?” she says. “I felt God calling me here, and I’ve never regretted my decision. I love it here. The people are friendly and genuine. I love going to class and waving to a minimum of 20 people on my way there. It starts the day off awesome.”

Squanda is a resident assistant and member of Phi Sigma Sigma, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Tea Time With God, and the IPHS Honorary. She says she is confident that her Alma experience will help her in many ways in the future.

“Alma is a tough school that has taught me to work hard, to plan, and to manage my time,” she says. “I now know how important it is to be a whole-hearted person in life, and Alma also has taught me that.”

Alma College’s sports teams have been known as the “Scots” since 1931 when Alma students voted on the name. Soon thereafter, “Scotty” emerged as Alma’s official mascot and is regularly seen on campus, in the community and at athletics events.
