Student Profile: Marissa Sheffield
Almont junior Marissa Sheffield is an elementary education and dance double major who knows a thing or two about coloring outside the lines.
“I have a wide variety of interests, so I really like doing everything, thus my double major and my double minor,” she says. “I do best when I focus on a lot at once.”
Sheffield, who has been dancing since she was 2 years old, is a member of the Alma College Dance Company. She says dance is a way for her to express her feelings.
“Dance is a way to release all the negative things that are going on in your life,” she says. “I love it. As a shy person, being part of the dance company also has been a great way for me to meet new people.”
Another way Sheffield says she has been able to break out of her shell is through her close relationships with her professors at Alma.
“My professors push me, and I can tell they want me to succeed,” she says. “They have helped me see that I have the potential needed to be successful in my field after graduation.”
And that’s a good thing because Sheffield can’t imagine herself in any other field. She says teaching is her life’s passion.
“Whether I’m teaching preschool, elementary school or dance, I just want to teach for the rest of my life,” she says. “I love little kids, and I love helping them learn, succeed and find their full potential.”
