Sophocles’ powerful tragedy, Antigone, was first staged in the fifth century B.C.E. It still stands today as a timeless exploration of a young woman’s noble fight to speak out against tyranny and risk her own life for what she believes is right.

Winner of the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play, Arthur Miller’s exciting portrayal of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692 is both a gripping historical play and a timely parable of our contemporary society. The Salem community begins a series of actions that tests each individual’s integrity and provokes a quest that challenges the very soul of the community.

In a series of twelve scenes spanning twelve months, we follow the intertwined worlds of a circle of friends and family whose lives are poised between happiness and heartbreak. The diverse scenes and characters in this winning play come together to create a delightful theatrical experience.

Alma encourages its students to look beyond Michigan’s boundaries. The Posey Global Leadership Scholarship provides opportunities for Alma College students to travel anywhere in the world and complete a self-designed project. Alma students have completed projects on topics ranging from teaching to public policy, in places from the Philippines to South Africa.

Fitting both into one schedule is nearly impossible, but for Olyvia Brown ’14, it’s a labor of love.
