Scholarship Audition Information

Regardless of intended major or minor, talented dancers are encouraged to participate in the dance program and audition for performance scholarships, which begin at $1,000 and may go up to full tuition based on your audition.

Three reasons to audition:

  1. Scholarship consideration
  2. Admission to the Alma College Dance Company (ACDC)
  3. Facilitates Technique Class placement

In order to audition, dancers must be accepted to Alma College. To complete an application for admission, please visit http://www.alma.edu/admissions/apply

Please select one of the following options with regard to dance scholarship auditions:

I am interested in auditioning for a dance scholarship but would like to research the Dance Program more before committing to an audition date, or I am not yet a high school senior and therefore cannot schedule an audition at this time.

 I would like audition on:

  • November 18, 2009
  • January 27, 2010
  • March 10, 2010

Your audition date will be confirmed with a letter and a telephone call from the Dance Program. At the audition, you will take a Modern Dance Technique Class and a Ballet Technique Class. Please have bare feet for the Modern class. If you do pointe work, please bring your pointe shoes. You will also perform a two-to-three minute solo of your choosing that either you or your teacher have choreographed. We have both a CD and cassette tape player for your use.

The schedule on your audition date is as follows:
10:30 AM       Modern Dance Technique Class
11:30 AM       Meet Theatre and Dance faculty
NOON       Lunch with dance students
1:30 PM       Campus tour, if needed
2:30 PM       Present your solo
3:30 PM       Ballet Technique Class (concludes at 5:00 PM)

Dancers with questions about Modern dance should contact Carol Fike at (989) 463-7242 or fike@alma.edu. Ballet dancers with questions should contact Tom Morris at (989) 463-7141 or morris@alma.edu.
