Katrina Pekich-Bundy

Graduate Profile: Katrina Pekich-Bundy

Religious Studies major Katrina Pekich-Bundy says her experience as a student ministry coordinator helped prepare her for future ministry.

“This program helped me to affirm my calling in the church and learn some of my strengths and weaknesses,” says the 2007 alumnus. “It helped me to grow in my faith and learn more about myself and others.”

A student at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, she plans to obtain a Master of Divinity degree (M. Div) and become an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA).

“I feel called to become a minister, and I have a love for learning more about my own religion, as well as other world religions,” she says. “I feel that in order to understand myself and others I need to try and fully comprehend other religious beliefs to be compassionate toward others and understand where people are coming from.”

The diverse education in the Religious Studies Program allowed Pekich-Bundy to study all religious to prepare herself for ministry.

“I feel called to become a minister in a church, especially dealing with social justice issues,” she says. “I think that even though I will be ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) I will still be able to use other aspects from other religions in order to deepen my own faith and to help others explore their own.”

Pekich-Bundy, an Ohio native, was attracted to Alma because of the welcoming community and student body.

“I loved how I could walk by anyone, even people I didn’t know, and they would say hello or smile at me. After one visit and meeting students and faculty I felt that God was calling me to move to Alma,” she says.

More than 100 Alma College students and staff traveled to destinations in New Mexico, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Louisiana and North Carolina for service projects during winter break in February 2007. “Alternative Break service experiences continue to gain popularity on Alma College’s campus,” says Sallie Scheide, assistant director in the Center for Responsible Leadership.
