DeAnna Daniels

Student Profile: Deanna Daniels

DeAnna Daniels wants to touch all seven continents during her lifetime.

Deanna Daniels

The sophomore, a Religious Studies major and History minor, plans to be a missionary in India for four years after she graduates. After that, she wants to visit every continent as a missionary.

“I have grown up in church and always wanted to be around something that resembles God,” she says. “I always wanted to help people.”

After a missionary visited her church as a young girl, she saw a way to combine those two desires.

“He said that if you believe that you want to do it (missions), you will feel it in your heart, and I did,” she says. “Not only do I get to spread the Good News, but I get to help people.”

Her calling was confirmed on a mission trip to Mexico in high school.

“It was everything that I had ever expected it to be, and that’s where I want to go in life,” she says.

Alma College offers her both a small and comforting community and faculty that take an interest in her education. Bishop Thomas Makarios continues to inspire her in her mission goal, and Brian Stratton is one of her faculty mentors in the Religious Studies program.

“I was able to meet with teachers who not only challenged my beliefs but let me see into the others,” she says. “In other programs I wouldn’t have had that chance. I was able to see further than my own view.”

In addition to her studies, Daniels is involved in the cheerleading team, is a disc jockey for WQAC and is starting a praise dance team.

Students conducting research side-by-side with faculty has been an Alma legacy for generations. Alma students team up with faculty on scholarly research or to collaborate on creative or performing arts projects. An annual Honors Day features student presentations, performances and exhibits. Many students present such work at regional, national and international meetings.
