“I came to Alma undecided, but when I took a class with Dr. Riley, I loved everything he was doing with new media,” she says. “Not only is he really open-minded, he is inspiring. I was so excited to go to that class.”

One of the things Keaton, who hopes to someday work in advertising as a graphic or website designer, loves most about Alma are the opportunities. She says she has been able to make connections that put everything in focus.

“Initially, I didn’t even know what ‘liberal arts’ meant,” she says. “Now, I understand the concept because everything I’m doing just fits together. You’re not limited to one major, one field or one anything at Alma.”

The Clarkston junior also is enthusiastic about Alma’s atmosphere. After growing up in a small town, she moved and attended a school with a graduating class of 700. She says she noticed the difference immediately.

“At graduation, people walked across the stage, and I had never even seen them before!” she says. “At Alma, I know pretty much everyone, and I really like that. Professors care whether or not you come to class, and I’ve made so many friends.”

Students at Alma College are involved in any of nearly 75 campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic honorary societies, campus media, intramural sports, the performing arts and worship groups.
