Faculty Profile: Dr. Will Nichols

Dr. Nichols conducts the Alma College Choir, the College Chorale and the Women's Glee Club. Under his leadership the Alma Choirs have become one of the nation's highly regarded collegiate choral programs.

Will Nichols

He is a professional singer with an active career as a soloist in classical and popular styles. A bass-baritone, Will has sung with many of Michigan's major Symphony Orchestras (Grand Rapids, Midland, Saginaw, Interlochen) and Oratorio Societies (Michigan Bach Collegium, Central Michigan University, Calvin College, Kalamazoo College, Michigan Tech University). He shares in a Grammy Award won by the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus for the recording of the Penderecki Credo.

Nichols is a past president of the Michigan Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. He and his wife, Pamela, are the parents of Jennifer, Christian, Wilson, and Elizabeth.

 

Students conducting research side-by-side with faculty has been an Alma College legacy for generations. Alma students team up with faculty on scholarly research or to collaborate on creative or performing arts projects. An annual Honors Day features student presentations, performances and exhibits. Many students present such work at regional, national and international meetings.

Dr. Raymond Riley, professor of music at Alma College since 1988, has enjoyed a long and multi-faceted musical career.

Appearing in numerous venues as a recitalist, lecturer, clinician and soloist throughout the Midwest, he believes his piano performance background has been invaluable in supporting his efforts to combine art and science and to foster creativity with technology.
