“Music is my life, especially here at Alma,” says the music education major. “I want to teach others about music because I’m passionate about it, and it brings so much joy to people’s lives.”

Though Woody originally planned to attend art school, seeing Alma’s percussion ensemble play influenced her to pick up percussion as a senior in high school.

“I’ve played drum set since I was 13 years old, so I had to learn all the percussion instruments in a semester for my audition, which was a huge challenge but very exciting,” she says.

Woody’s favorite part of her Alma experience continues to be playing music. She says playing in such an inspiring studio with people she respects is “life-changing.”

“Being at Alma truly turned me into the person I want to be,” she says. “It has really changed the direction of my life.”

In addition to participating in the percussion ensemble, Woody also is a member of the Kiltie Wind Ensemble, Kiltie Marching Band and Kappa Iota.

Wright Hall, Alma’s “green” residence hall, is a modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall that features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.
