Alma College Choirs

Welcome to the Home of the Alma College Choirs!

The Alma Choir            College Chorale                Glee Club

The Alma College Choirs make up one of the largest and most highly respected collegiate choral programs in the United States.  With three large choirs, several small student-led close harmony ensembles, and a membership of more than 180 students, the Alma Choirs rival  the choral experience at the largest public universities --  while maintaining the traditions and engagement with campus life possible only in the finest liberal arts settings.

For more than 100 years the Alma College Choirs have offered Alma students the opportunity to sing and travel together. The shared musical experiences build friendships that have proven to last a lifetime and the traditions of the Choirs forge a unique connection between alumni and current Choir members.

The three Alma College Choirs play an important role on the Alma campus where singing is accepted as an artistic endeavor worthy of a student’s time and best effort. Nearly 15% of Alma students are members of the Women’s Glee Club, the College Chorale or the Alma Choir, and everyone on campus has friends in one or more of the choirs.

The goal of the vocal/ choral program at Alma College is two-fold:

1)    to foster within all students a love for singing and the requisite skills that will encourage them to be active singers throughout their lives; and

2)    to prepare professional musicians for careers as performers and music educators.

A perfect beach day on Florida Tour '08..

Both goals are met a new each year as evidenced by the number of Alma College Choir alumni singing in amateur and professional choirs, as well as musical theatre companies across the nation and around the world, and by the growing number of alumni who are making their mark in the professional world as music teachers and performers. While each choir has its own concerts, projects and traditions, the Choirs come together each December for the College’s Festival of Carols and again in April for the Masterworks concert featuring the finest music written for orchestra and chorus.

Alma is one of seven Michigan colleges and universities to hold membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the national leadership society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character. The College also has 19 other national departmental honor societies.
