Student Profile: Britni Patrick

Britni Patrick is excited about all the career possibilities using her Spanish major and environmental studies minor.
“The need for Spanish-speaking employees has been rapidly growing,” the North Muskegon senior says. “Plus, with the many transitions our world will be facing regarding energy, oil and the environment; it is probable my environmental studies minor will be helpful.”
After taking a mission trip to Mexico in high school, Patrick discovered how much she enjoyed speaking Spanish. In the summer of 2008 she studied at the Academia Latinoamericana in Ecuador and Peru.
“The highlights of my trip were what I learned about the people and culture,” she says. “It’s normal to see the world from only one perspective when that is all you have ever known. After this trip, I realize the importance of gaining a new worldview.”
“One of the neatest things about experiencing another culture is that it provides you with the opportunity to see your original perspective in a whole new light,” she says.
She was attracted to Alma by the small size and the opportunity to be involved in so many different activities.
“Alma allowed me to be stay involved in a variety of things even if it didn’t have to do with my major,” she says.
She is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, varsity soccer, chorale, Center for Responsible Leadership and Relay for Life.
