Student Profile: Kaitlin Carolan

Kaitlin Carolan is hoping to use her Spanish major to work with the government.

“I know that having a language under my belt will help me,” the Harper Woods junior says. “I've been looking heavily into being a translator, especially if I had the opportunity to work with immigration at the same time.”

An anthropology minor, Carolan has always loved Spanish.

“This program has given me one-on-one assistance from the professors,” she says. “I also have the opportunity to spend a semester overseas. I plan on traveling to Spain this winter. It will be such a rewarding experience.”

In the future, she plans on attending the University of Detroit Mercy for a graduate school degree in criminal justice.

She was attracted to Alma because of its small size and likes the idea of being able to travel during spring terms.

Carolan is a second-year resident assistant in Newberry Hall and president of Sigma Alpha Omega, a Christian sorority. She is also a member of the Spanish Club and Alma Anonymous, a peer theatre group, and is a Highland dancer in the Alma College Dance Company.

Alma College’s partnership with the Pine River Superfund Citizen Task Force, an EPA-sanctioned Community Advisory Group (CAG), was selected as a finalist for Michigan’s 2007 Carter Partnership Award. The Task Force is recognized as one of the most influential and active CAGs nationally and as having the largest membership of any CAG in the United States.
