Brad Boughner

Graduate Profile: Brad Boughner

Brad Boughner’s Spanish degree set him apart from a large pool of candidates for a position as a personal banker for Wells Fargo Bank in LaPorte, Ind.

“The knowledge and experience acquired at Alma during my four years of Spanish studies helped me to elevate myself above the 30 other candidates and be offered the job at the conclusion of the interview,” the 2006 graduate says. “Now, I am working for a diversified financial services company and helping to grow and enhance Wells Fargo’s relationship with the Hispanic community, the fastest growing segment of our population.”

The double major in business administration and Spanish studied Spanish throughout high school, and knew he wanted to become fluent to stand out in the job market. He credits the program and faculty for the opportunity to study abroad and expand his personal growth.

From planning my first semester schedule after pre-term to an embrace and tears shared at commencement, the relationships built with the Spanish faculty catapults the program above others.

“My advisor, Professor Margarita Krakusin, treated me almost as if I were one of her children and genuinely cared about my growth and success as a student and individual,” he says. “From planning my first semester schedule after pre-term to an embrace and tears shared at commencement, the relationships built with the Spanish faculty catapults the program above others.”

Originally attracted to Alma through family and the intimate educational environment, Boughner was a resident assistant, served on the residence hall association executive board, played baseball and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity while at Alma.

Alma is one of seven Michigan colleges and universities to hold membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the national leadership society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.
