Becky Moore

Graduate Profile: Becky Moore

Becky Shelley Moore was attracted to the French program at Alma College because it offered an opportunity to spend a semester in France.

“My experience overseas was incredible and life-shaping,” the 1996 graduate says.

“I feel so fortunate to have had that rich experience with all the support set up through Alma’s collaboration with L’Alliance Française. Living and learning in France was the highlight of my French studies in college!”

My experience overseas was incredible and life-shaping.

Moore uses her French major every day as a French teacher for Heritage High School in Saginaw.

“The overseas experience really made a difference in my life and in my career choice,” she says.

“I also worked as a teaching assistant in the Foreign Language program for a couple of semesters, which was great teaching practice. I use some of the techniques I ’practiced’ as a TA still today in my classroom.”

She also was attracted to Alma by the small campus size and the community on campus. While at Alma, she was involved in the Alma Choir, Glee Club, a small a capella performance group and Alpha Gamma Delta.

In the more than 100 years since its founding, Alma has stayed true to its roots by keeping its Scottish heritage alive. Today, Alma features a marching band clad in Kilts, a Scottish dance troupe, student pipers and its own tartan. Each year, the College hosts the Alma Highland Festival and Games, which feature traditional Scottish games and revelry.
