“At Alma, I learned how to put my own, unique vision on the line and explain that vision to my peers,” he says. “It’s the same in the corporate world. You can craft a solution for an existing model, or you can create something entirely unique.”

Fischer’s vision for himself led him to Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, where he earned his master’s degree in business administration in 2009. Now, he is considering pursuing his doctorate degree.

The 1990 alumnus is quick to remind undergraduates how valuable an Alma education is.

“Alma teaches patience and trust in one’s own abilities, regardless of what is happening in the surrounding environment,” he says. “While it can be tough for firms to get along during the economic crisis, there’s no better time for an education. When the market does turn around, those who have improved their skills will benefit the most.”

While at Alma, Fischer was involved with the men’s soccer team, band and the College radio station.

Alma College’s membership in Phi Beta Kappa is an indication of excellence within the liberal arts. Only 10 percent of colleges and universities in the United States share this distinction. The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors organization.
