Student Profile: Katie Boyer
Katie Boyer's study abroad experience in France during the summer of 2006 made her realize she had to major in French.
A double major in French and Business Administration, Boyer credits the French program at Alma with creating a curriculum that teaches the French culture, as well as the language.
"I have had the opportunity to take courses beyond grammar, which include art, architecture, literature and history in French," the Cadillac senior says. "I have been encouraged to look beyond the given perspective and express my own opinion as well as apply these concepts to the world around me today. You discuss such a wide range of subjects that I never felt limited in my learning while at the same time always expanding my French vocabulary."

Boyer plans to use her Business Administration major to obtain a CPA or MBA and apply her French major while later working in the business field in a French-speaking country.
"I hope that my knowledge of French will be matched nicely with my business knowledge in an international context," she says. "Business and the knowledge of French leave me endless professional opportunities."
Drawn to the college by an alumnus, Boyer says she values the small campus, relationships with professors as well as the vast amount of travel opportunities.
Her diverse majors and minor draw Boyer to a number of different campus activities, including the Center for Responsible Leadership, Glee Club, Psi Chi (an honorary psychology fraternity), Rho Chi Epsilon (an honorary business fraternity) and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
"I have learned that a liberal arts education at Alma College can go far beyond the classroom," she says.
