Bicentenario in Michigan

Invitation for Information Fair--OFF campus organizations

Invitation Information Fair--Campus Organizations

Alma College cordially invites you to participate in an Information Fair held during our “Bicentenario in Michigan: Exchanges between Michigan and the Americas” foundational event on Friday, September 17th, 2010. Our tentative plans for this event (subject to change) include: welcomes beginning at 3:00 p.m., followed by a mariachi performance. The Information Fair, along with Zumba demonstrations and dance lessons, will immediately ensue and end at 5:00 p.m. At this time a dinner recess will be observed. Activities will once again resume however, at 7:00 p.m. when Consul Vicente Sánchez Venutura of the Mexican Consulate in Detroit will give “El Grito de Independencia” to commence the Baile Latino, which will last until 11:00 p.m.

For this inaugural event we ask that you create a poster that reflects what your organization does, the role you assume in the Michigan community, and your connection with Hispanic heritage. The posters will be displayed or hung beginning the morning of the 17th through the end of the Baile Latino. We also encourage you to send a representative of your organization to be available for questions/answers during the events and welcome any handouts you would like to be distributed where your poster is displayed. Each organization will be responsible for providing their own leaflet copies. As we have limited table and wall space however, it will be allotted according to a first come, first serve basis.

In order to reserve space for your organization please send an e-mail to: bicentenario.almacollege@gmail.com that indicates your interest in participating no later than August 15th. Please also include a brief description of your organization--if possible we request this information in both English and Spanish, contact information: e-mail and telephone number, and how you plan to participate in the Information Fair (poster size, type: wall or free-standing, handouts, representatives, etc.). Once your position has been confirmed, you may send your poster and leaflet samples to: Attn. Stephany Slaughter. 614 West Superior Street. Alma, Michigan 48801. Materials may also be delivered personally to the Alma College Provost’s Office on the first floor of the Swanson Academic Center (SAC). All resources must be received by Alma College however, no later than Friday, September 3rd.  If you would like further information please do not hesitate to send an e-mail to: bicentenario.almacollege@gmail.com.
