Bicentenario in Michigan

El Bicentenario in Michigan: Exchanges Between Michigan and the Americas (Intercambios entre Michigan y las Américas)

PARA ESPAÑOL, PRESIONE AQUÍ

2010 marks a very significant and special year in the history of Hispanic countries and their people living throughout the world because many are celebrating bicentennials of their Independence. As our state has recently seen an explosion of Hispanic migration, we feel it is imperative to commemorate these historical events and the impact their cultures have had upon our community (and vice versa).

Therefore, in honor of Michigan’s own Hispanic heritage and the many exchanges between Michigan and the Americas, Alma College will be highlighting a series of events this academic year.

Josh Minshall

Josh Minshall
Graduation: 2013
Major: French

Some people think French is the language of snoots and snobs. Others assume it’s only good for impressing dates. To Holly senior Josh Minshall, the language of love is “100-percent awesome sauce.”

“I’ve been taking French since 10th grade,” he says. “A lot of my friends took Spanish because they thought French would be too hard, but I stuck with it. I feel like I have a real knack for the language, and I speak it every day.”
