Faculty Profle: Mary Wendt
Mary Wendt earned her undergraduate degree in English at Alma College, and now as a visiting instructor she teaches some of the same classes she took as a student.
“My favorite part about teaching at Alma is definitely the students. At the end of each semester, I feel privileged to have gotten to know such amazing young people.”
She earned her master’s degree in composition and communication from Central Michigan University and is currently a doctoral student at Michigan State University.
“I am very fond of this institution and the people here,” she says. “I have wanted to teach most of my life. Combining my love for writing and my passion to teach is the best job I could ask for.”
Wendt specializes in three areas: digital rhetorics, which is the discussion and utilization of new media; digital literacies, the ability to use computer technology; and the liberal arts. She also directs the writing center on campus.
“I fell in love with nonfiction writing as an undergrad working with Dr. Robert Vivian and Dr. William Palmer,” she says, “and simultaneously got interested in digital technologies and how they affect our writing world while working as a web designer.”
While at Alma, Wendt earned the senior award for highest GPA in her graduating class.
“My favorite part about teaching at Alma is definitely the students,” she says. “I truly enjoy their genuine hearts and wonderful spirit. At the end of each semester, I feel privileged to have gotten to know such amazing young people.”
