Faculty Profile: Dr. Micheal Vickery
Dr. Micheal Vickery, professor of communication, teaches courses in communication and technology, media and public communication, organizational and intercultural communication, and communication theory and research.
His research interests include media literacy, the impact of media on political discourse and the rhetoric of technology. Vickery is the campus liaison for the Philadelphia Center Internship Program.
As a faculty member of the College’s Environmental Studies Program, his main goal is to promote awareness and education, address community concerns and foster environmental stewardship while introducing students to the relationship between science and society.
Students in the program have worked collaboratively with local, regional and national community groups, local industry, public schools, municipalities, the State of Michigan and the Environmental Protection Agency.
As a faculty member of the College’s New Media Studies Program, his primary aim is to instruct students in the rhetorical situation that both informs and is informed by the use of technology.
Vickery received his B.S. degree from the University of Alabama and his Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.
At a recent faculty forum, Dr. Vickery describes the ‘remarkable things’ that students do while they are here at and after they graduate from Alma College.
