Graduate Profile: Dan Linsell

Dan Linsell didn’t realize he wanted to go into the family business when he came to Alma College.

His major in communication has helped him grow the business, Tri-C Club Supply, which sells locker room amenities and cleaning supplies.

“I diversified our family business from just relying on country club sales, and expanded our company into the sports arena and college/university market,” the 2002 graduate says. “This has added over a $1 million in sales over the past five years. It has also kept me involved in area I have great personal interest - SPORTS!”

Attracted to Alma by the size, professors and campus, Linsell credits Professor of Communication Micheal Vickery with challenging him and providing leadership.

“I have to do a number of presentations for work,” he says. “The communication program taught me how to speak well and how to read a room, along with a number of other valuable lessons.”

While at Alma, Linsell was a member of the swim team.

“This portion of my college experience has left me with great friends and memories I will cherish forever,” he says.

Alma College students report levels of educational experiences and faculty interaction that exceed the national norms by significant amounts, according to the findings of the 2007 National Survey of Student Engagement. In the 2006 study, Alma students reported a level of interaction with faculty that ranked among the top five percent in the nation.

Steven Bailey

Steven Bailey
Graduation: 2006
Major: Business and Mass Communication

If a person gets paid for drawing cartoons, you’d think that person might be an art major; however, Steven Bailey double majored in business and mass communications.

“Drawing cartoons is a lot like mass communication,” Bailey says. “You have to think about the message you’re sending. A cartoon is a work of art and a message. The focus is on trying to express yourself to the readers.”
