Student Profile: Kate Bruder
Kate Bruder has traveled all over the world thanks to her Alma experience.
Bruder, a double major in Spanish and Communication with a minor in Art and Design, says the various opportunities to travel abroad drew her to Alma. She spent a semester abroad in Segovia, Spain in fall of 2006, and has traveled to Argentina to study photojournalism, Nicaragua to study Spanish, and to Massachusetts, Kentucky and Tennessee for alternative breaks. In addition, she has gone to New Mexico and England with the Center for Responsible Leadership.
The Dearborn Heights senior says she was originally drawn to Communication because she wanted to work at a newspaper or magazine, but fell in love with the Spanish language on a trip to Peru in 2001. She says she now hopes to sell her photography out of a gallery in Spain.

"I love to travel and experience new cultures, and by speaking Spanish I am able to do this with more ease," she says. "I feel that my communications major has helped me become a better public speaker and writer and has given me a better understanding of American culture, how technology works and, most importantly, about the many different facets of how mass media work."
Bruder is involved in various activities at Alma. She is a senior resident assistant in Mitchell Hall, chair of the Little Siblings Weekend Planning Committee, Spanish Lab teacher assistant, alternative break participant, social sorority Phi Sigma Sigma member, service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega member and president of Omicron Delta Kappa, an honorary leadership fraternity.
She plans on interning for one of the Smithsonian Institutions in Washington, D.C. or the Museum of Modern Art or The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
