Faculty Profile: Robert Rozier

Robert Rozier, associate professor of art and design, brings expertise in painting to Alma College students. His own preference is for large-scale figurative paintings in bright, bold colors. Expressing the form and structure and the light and color he observes in the natural environment are his main concerns.
Rozier spent a year teaching high school mathematics and art before returning to college to study studio art and art history. For more than 20 years he has been teaching painting, printmaking, life drawing and jewelry making at the college level.
During several sabbaticals to Mexico and Europe he has explored light and color and created watercolor landscapes. Back in the studio these experiences have fostered multiple series dry-point engravings. He often uses colleagues and students as models for his large figurative compositions in oil. During Spring Term 2003 Rozier took his fifth group of students on a contemporary art trip in New York City.
